Football Assistant Coach

Reports To: Football Head Coach, who provides overall program objectives and evaluations in conjunction with the 

                    Director of Student Activities

Supervises: Supervision roles for non-coordinator level assistant coaches is student-athlete based.

Employment Terms: Seasonal

Pay Scale: Non-Contractual

Job Summary

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student-athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self discipline and self confidence.

Coaching Responsibilities

  1. Under the direction of the Football Head Coach, supervision and implementation of weight and conditioning sessions, football specific workouts, pre game, in game and post game strategies as well as non sport specific functions.
  2. Should be present at all football specific meetings and athletic department meetings as required by the Football Head Coach and Director of Student Activities.

General

  1. Will, in coordination with the Football Head Coach, work to advance the vision that the Head Coach has for the football program as a whole.
  2. Will be, in coordination with the Football Head Coach, the face of Dinwiddie Football in dealings with Dinwiddie County Public Schools, Dinwiddie High/Middle School, Dinwiddie Athletics and the Dinwiddie Community.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. As requested by the Football Head Coach, the Football Assistant Coach will (in conjunction with other assistant coaches on the football staff) execute:
  2. Football program specific duties as assigned by the Football Head Coach, including demonstrating and supervising student-athletes doing football specific drills as well as completing administrative tasks related to football operations.
  3. Send team pertinent information to student-athletes and parents.
  4. Ensure that student-athletes and parents are fully informed with regards to Dinwiddie Athletic Department and team rules and policies as well as practice and game schedules.
  5. Monitor athlete behavior, attendance and academic status. (This includes providing corrective assistance to administrators and teachers as requested and necessary).
  6. Development of a team club account budget and overseeing all team specific fundraisers.
  7. Prepare athletic venues for games and practices (team area and scoring table set up).
  8. Represent the Dinwiddie Athletic Department at Region and State selection meetings as requested by the Football Head Coach.
  9. Assume other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Football Head Coach and/or the Director of Student Activities.

  10. Physical Requirements

    1. This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
    2. Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and frequently requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms and lifting.
    3. Work has standard vision requirements.
    4. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
    5. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities.
    6. Work requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
    7. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. gym, field events) and requires occasional visits to off-site locations.   

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
    2. Demonstrates professionalism and fosters a positive environment.
    3. Knowledge of athletic program regulations.

     

    Qualifications, Education, Experience and Special Requirements

    1. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
    2. Position may require the operation of division-owned/leased motor vehicles; therefore, the incumbent’s driving record will be subject to periodic review and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board’s policy manual. 
    3. All candidates must successfully undergo the following pre-employment screenings:
      1. Tuberculosis Screening
      2. Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
      3. State Police Criminal History Investigation
      4. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)/National Criminal History Investigative Search

    Evaluation Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie

    County School Board’s policy manual.
