Employment Terms: Hourly based on need. 3-4 hours per day, up to 5 days per week.

 

Grade: NA (hourly position)

 

 

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the position is responsible for monitoring student behavior during meal service. Assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria, assists with recycling, and assists with the flow of meal service.

Essential Functions

  1. Greets and relates to all students, teachers, visitors, parents, school administrators, school board employees, and all others, in a polite and congenial manner.
  2. Promotes a positive lunchroom environment for students, staff and guests.
  3. Interacts with students in a manner which is appropriate to their developmental level, being fair, consistent and professional at all times.
  4. Works closely with school administrators to set guidelines and enforce student behavior expectations at lunch and follows appropriate sets for dealing with disruptive behavior and infractions.
  5. Maintains order and acceptable noise level in the cafeteria and serving lines in accordance with standards related to the cafeteria monitor by the school principal or designee.
  6. Assists with tasks that contribute toward a neat and orderly cafeteria environment such as wiping tables, picking up trays and silverware, helping children clean up spilled food and trash, and similar tasks, as needed.
  7. Assists with the movement of classes in and out of the cafeteria as scheduled.
  8. Assists students with needs that may arise such as opening milk cartons and thermos bottles.
  9. Completes all job assignments in the most efficient and expedient manner possible.
  10. Takes initiative in fulfilling designated responsibilities without excessive supervision from the principal.
  11. Assists with supervision of students during outdoor recess or activity time at lunch.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the school principal or designee

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  2. Ability to work cooperatively and productively with other food service employees, students, staff and others contacted in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented workplace.
  3. Ability to supervise children in an orderly and consistent manner following guidelines supplied by the principal.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and division guidelines.

 

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  2. A combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements

  1. This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force such as computers, copiers, printers, projectors, smart TVs, smart boards, etc.
  2. Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking, speaking or hearing and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions.
  3. Work requires close vision, distance vision, color perception and peripheral vision.
  4. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  5. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  6. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects. and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  7. Work frequently requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places and exposure to extreme heat (non-weather).
  8. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
  9. Must be mobile enough for frequent traveling to and from schools and facilities inside and outside the school division.

 

Special Requirements

  1. May require the ability to acquire a valid driver’s license to operate division-owned/leased motor vehicles.  The incumbent’s driving record will be subject to periodic review, and must be acceptable in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board’s policy manual.
  1. All candidates must successfully undergo the following pre-employment screenings:
    1. Tuberculosis Screening
    2. Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
    3. State Police Criminal History Investigation
    4. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)/National Criminal History Investigative Search

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County 

School Board’s policy manual.
