Employment Terms: 10-Month Part-time Position

 

Grade: Hourly

 

Hourly Rates are as follows: $25/hour for non-licensed teachers (regardless of degree/non-degree status) and $40 per hour for licensed teachers

 

Position Summary


Provides academic assistance and support to students in a particular subject or skill for remediation. 

 

Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions

  1. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as hands-on manipulatives, reading materials, and writing materials.
  2. Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques.
  3. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  4. Analyzes data and makes instructional decisions, gathers resources and supplementary materials, prepares students for assessments.
  5. Help students understand and master the content by explaining concepts, answering questions, and providing examples.

     

  6. Assess understanding of the subject through various mentods, tailoring tutoring sessions to address individual needs.

  7. Assist students with their homework and assignments, ensuring they grasp the material and complete tasks accurately. Review and reinforce classroom lessons.

  8. Help students develop effective study habits, time management skills, and learning strategies.

  9. Motivate students. 

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  1. Previous experience in teaching or tutoring is preferred.
  2. Possess general knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching.
  3. Licensed in a teaching area under the Virginia Department of Education. 
  4. Have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents.

 

Physical Requirements

  1. Requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
  2. Regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions.
  3. Frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, bending, lifting, distributing educational materials/items as needed and using technical equipment in area of assignment.
  4. Standard vision requirements
  5. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
  6. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound
  7. Requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  8. Must be mobile enough to travel and monitor program aspects in all instructional settings.
  9. Occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

 

Special Requirements

 

  1. All candidates must successfully undergo the following pre-employment screenings: 
    1.  Tuberculosis Screening
    2.  Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation
    3.  State Police Criminal History Investigation

Evaluation

 

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Dinwiddie County School Board’s policy manual.
