FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Reports To: School Nutrition Manager

 

Supervises: None

 

Employment Terms: 10-Month Full-time Position (184 Contracted Days) or 10-Month Part-time Position  

 

Grade: 1 or Hourly Rate for Part-time (hours per day to be determined)

 

Position Summary

Performs intermediate skilled work preparing, cooking and serving food in accordance with the menu.  Cleaning and maintaining kitchen and cafeteria and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the School Nutrition Manager.

 

Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions

  1. Prepares and serves meals in accordance with weekly menus.
  2. May be assigned to one specific food preparation area or rotated through the full range of food services. Operates register, Point of Sale (POS); takes money and makes change; counts and records amounts taken in.
  3. Washes dishes, trays and food preparation equipment; cleans work surfaces, eating and food preparation area. 
  4. Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens and other food service and mechanical equipment. 
  5. Sweeps and mops and performs other clean-up duties as assigned.
  6. Receives and stocks food supplies.
  7. Maintains sanitary conditions; removes trash.
  8. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meat, bread, vegetables and other foods on a large scale.
  2. General knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment.
  3. General knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  4. General knowledge of U.S.D.A. rules and regulations.
  5. Skill in the use of standardized recipes and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment.
  6. Ability to work long hours while standing and under high temperature conditions.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and associates.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED..
  2. Minimal experience in food preparation services, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements

  1. This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
  2. Work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and tasting or smelling, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting.
  3. Work has standard vision requirements.
  4. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  5. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  6. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities.
  7. Work occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts.
  8. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
